As you know our recitals are quick, fun, and the store is packed with families (if you are a new teacher with us...our recitals are quick, fun, and the store is packed with families). This year's recitals, like many things in life over the past year, will be a little different. Our recitals will still be quick and fun, but packed stores are a thing of the past (for now). Recitals will be presented online via your student's pre-recorded video submissions. The cool thing is that your student will be able to record (and re-record if necessary) their performance until they are happy to share it with the rest of the Family Music family.
This new recital format is a great opportunity for students to learn something new and explore different ways to express themselves. We want to encourage them to be creative (or keep it simple - it's up to them). Your student can wear a tuxedo, dress, or batman costume. They can perform from under a table, in a box, with a fox, inside, outside, upside down, on a boat or in a car, just as long as we can see and hear them!
Our recital is open to all students, even those that just started and can only play "Mary Had a Little Lamb". Performances can be anywhere from 15 seconds up to 5 minutes depending on the student's level. Beginner students are allotted up to 2 minutes play time, intermediate students are allotted up to 3 minutes, and advanced students may have up to 5 minutes total time. Student participation is not mandatory but highly encouraged.
The intention is for students and parents to record their performance at home. It is my hope that families will have fun putting something together. That being said, if you know of a student with a little less support at home, technically challenged parents, or not a suitable instrument or recording device, feel free to record them in your studio during their lesson time. I will send you a video submission link in a few weeks.
You have 9 weeks to prepare them as video submissions are due by March 27th. I will splice the videos together and post them to a non-public page on our website on April 10th.
NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Have fun! We are looking forward to seeing what your student has to share!
Reach out to me if you have any questions. Stefan
